Hon. Mike Nixon
MLA - Porter Creek South
Mike Nixon was elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the general election of October 11, 2011. He was sworn into Cabinet on November 5, 2011.
Mr. Nixon has made Yukon his home since 1998. He has an agricultural background, having been raised on a dairy farm just outside of Niagara Falls, Ontario. He also has 14 years of experience working in the social sector, including five years working with at-risk youth in Yukon from 2004 to 2009. He has been an entrepreneur for nine years, owning and operating a number of businesses (Frazer's Family Fun Centre in Riverdale from 1999 to 2003, Lanix Property Management Limited from 2007 to 2011and Eyewerx Graphic Design from 2010 to 2011).
Mr. Nixon served on the Yukon Party Executive from 2008 to 2011, holding the positions of Treasurer and President. He guided the party through its leadership election process in the spring of 2011.
Inspired by his son Jack, who has autism, Mr. Nixon co-founded Autism Yukon and worked with the government to develop a system to offer specialized services for children and adults with autism. He was a director on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Yukon. Mr. Nixon was appointed to the Health and Social Services Council in 2011, but resigned after winning the election.
Mr. Nixon has three sons, Matthew, Kyle and Jack.
